Laura Shabazz, a native of Bernardsville, NJ, debuts a brand new collection of work from discarded materials. Foregoing her usual medium, salvaged magazines, Laura’s new series utilizes only books – their covers, illustrations, and typefaces. Inspired by the illustrations themselves, most of the pieces elicit the feeling of being immersed in a favorite story, with a few interpreting other subject matter. The series also stands to express Laura’s fondness for her job of nearly 8 years at the Bernardsville Public Library, a job she reluctantly left in order to accommodate Covid-19’s shifting priorities. This is her first solo show since lockdown.
